FAQ – WHITE SAND Crystal Proof

1. What is WHITE SAND Crystal Proof?

WHITE SAND Crystal Proof is a single-component, penetrating cementitious crystalline waterproofing coating designed to waterproof and protect new and existing structurally sound concrete. It forms crystals within the concrete capillaries to block water penetration while becoming an integral part of the concrete structure.

2. What is WHITE SAND Crystal Proof used for?

WHITE SAND Crystal Proof is used for:

  • Concrete waterproofing
  • Basements
  • Water tanks
  • Foundations
  • Concrete retaining walls
  • Lift pits
  • Tunnels
  • Swimming pools
  • Concrete structures exposed to positive water pressure
  • Concrete structures exposed to negative water pressure
3. How does WHITE SAND Crystal Proof work?

WHITE SAND Crystal Proof penetrates the concrete and reacts with moisture and free lime to form insoluble crystals within the capillary pores. These crystals permanently block water penetration while allowing the concrete to remain breathable.

4. What surfaces can WHITE SAND Crystal Proof be applied to?

WHITE SAND Crystal Proof is suitable for:

  • Reinforced concrete
  • Plain concrete
  • Basements
  • Water-retaining structures
  • Concrete foundations
  • Concrete walls
  • Concrete slabs
  • Newly poured concrete
  • Existing structurally sound concrete
5. What are the main advantages of WHITE SAND Crystal Proof?

Key benefits include:

  • Excellent resistance to hydrostatic pressure
  • Penetrating crystalline waterproofing technology
  • Seals capillary pores and hairline cracks
  • Can be applied to new or existing concrete
  • Suitable for positive and negative water pressure
  • Protects against chloride ions and sulphates
  • Reduces carbon dioxide penetration
  • Easy brush, trowel, spray, or dry shake application
  • Long-lasting integral waterproofing protection
6. Can WHITE SAND Crystal Proof withstand hydrostatic pressure?

Yes. WHITE SAND Crystal Proof creates an effective waterproofing barrier that provides excellent resistance to hydrostatic pressure from both the positive and negative sides of concrete structures.

7. Does WHITE SAND Crystal Proof seal cracks?

Yes. The product seals capillary pores and hairline cracks within the cementitious matrix as part of its crystalline waterproofing action. Larger cracks and construction joints should be repaired before application.

8. Can WHITE SAND Crystal Proof be applied to freshly poured concrete?

Yes. WHITE SAND Crystal Proof can be applied as a dry shake onto freshly poured and leveled concrete before final finishing, making it suitable for new concrete construction.

9. Can WHITE SAND Crystal Proof be used on both old and new concrete?

Yes. It is specifically formulated to waterproof both newly placed concrete and existing structurally sound concrete.

10. What is the recommended mixing ratio?

For slurry application, mix one 20 kg bag with approximately 7 liters of clean water. The amount of water may be reduced when preparing a mortar consistency.

11. What is the pot life of WHITE SAND Crystal Proof?

The mixed material has a pot life of approximately 60 minutes, so it should be applied within this working time.

12. What is the recommended application temperature?

WHITE SAND Crystal Proof should be applied at temperatures of +5°C or above.

13. How should the concrete surface be prepared before application?

Before application:

  • Remove loose materials and contaminants.
  • Eliminate cement laitance.
  • Clean using wire brushing, grinding, sandblasting, or water blasting.
  • Repair cracks and cold joints wider than 1 mm using WHITE SAND PLUG.
  • Stop active water leaks before application.
  • Pre-wet the concrete and allow excess surface water to disappear.
14. How do you mix WHITE SAND Crystal Proof?

Slowly add the powder to clean water while mixing with a slow-speed drill fitted with a mixing paddle until a smooth, lump-free consistency is achieved. Water can be reduced to produce a thicker mortar mix when required.

15. How is WHITE SAND Crystal Proof applied?

Depending on the application, WHITE SAND Crystal Proof can be applied using:

  • Stiff brush
  • Broom
  • Trowel
  • Spatula
  • Spray equipment
  • Dry shake method on freshly poured concrete
16. How many coats of WHITE SAND Crystal Proof are recommended?

For maximum waterproofing performance, two coats are recommended. Apply the second coat after the first coat has reached its initial set. If the first coat dries completely, lightly dampen the surface before recoating.

17. What is the recommended application thickness?
  • Coating: Approximately 1 mm per coat
  • Mortar application: Maximum 10 mm thickness after priming the substrate with a slurry coat of WHITE SAND Crystal Proof
18. How should WHITE SAND Crystal Proof be cured?

Keep the treated surface continuously moist to allow crystal formation. Protect it from direct sunlight and strong winds, and fog spray clean water three times daily for at least three days.

19. What is the coverage of WHITE SAND Crystal Proof?

Approximate coverage per 20 kg bag is:

  • Coating: 18 m² (two coats)
  • Mortar: 4 m² at 5 mm thickness
  • Dry shake: 16 m² (single application)

Actual coverage depends on the substrate condition and surface profile.

20. How should tools be cleaned after application?

Clean tools and equipment immediately with clean water before the material hardens. Hardened material can only be removed mechanically.

21. What packaging is WHITE SAND Crystal Proof available in?

WHITE SAND Crystal Proof is supplied in 20 kg bags.

22. What is the shelf life of WHITE SAND Crystal Proof?

The product has a shelf life of 12 months when stored in unopened original packaging in a dry, shaded location below 35°C.

23. Is WHITE SAND Crystal Proof safe to use?

Yes. Wear protective gloves and safety goggles during handling and application. Avoid skin and eye contact. Wash exposed skin with soap and water, rinse eyes thoroughly if contact occurs, and seek medical attention if irritation persists. The product is non-flammable and is not classified as hazardous under current legislation.

24. Why choose WHITE SAND Crystal Proof over conventional waterproof coatings?

Unlike surface-applied waterproof coatings, WHITE SAND Crystal Proof penetrates deep into the concrete and becomes part of the structure by forming permanent crystals within the capillary network. It provides long-lasting waterproofing, resists hydrostatic pressure from both sides, seals capillary pores and hairline cracks, protects against chloride and sulphate ingress, and can be applied to both new and existing concrete, making it an ideal solution for durable concrete waterproofing.
