Uses
- Hydrophobic treatment of horizontal and vertical concrete surfaces.
- Water-repellent treatment for precast concrete.
- Protection of brickwork and masonry.
- Treatment of mineral-based natural and artificial stone.
- Protection of cement-fiber boards.
- Treatment of mortar joints and compatible mineral paints.
- Protection of stucco and decorative concrete.
- Reducing water penetration into porous mineral substrates.
- Helping reduce the ingress of water-borne chloride and sulphate salts.
Advantages
- Low-viscosity penetrating hydrophobic treatment.
- Water-based silane-siloxane formulation.
- Excellent water-repellent characteristics.
- Penetrates porous concrete and masonry surfaces.
- Forms a hydrophobic lining within the substrate pores.
- Helps reduce the ingress of water-borne chlorides and sulphates.
- Does not block water-vapor transmission.
- Allows concrete and masonry substrates to breathe.
- Helps protect surfaces from water-related discoloration and pollution.
- Ready-to-use, single-component product.
- Does not normally change the surface texture or appearance.
- Suitable for spray, brush or roller application.
Substrate Preparation
The substrate must be structurally sound, clean, completely dry and free from dust, dirt, paint, efflorescence, laitance, oil, grease and contaminants that may prevent proper penetration.
Remove incompatible paints, coatings and surface treatments before application.
Repair and seal all cracks, open joints and defective areas before applying WR 50.
When an acid-based cleaner is used for surface preparation, neutralize the treated surface completely and allow it to dry before application.
A dry substrate is essential to allow proper penetration of WR 50.
Preparation of the Product
WR 50 is supplied ready to use and does not require dilution or additional mixing. Shake or stir the container thoroughly before application to ensure a uniform product.
Test Area
Apply WR 50 to a small representative test area before full application to confirm surface appearance, penetration, effectiveness and actual consumption.
Application
- Low-pressure airless-spray equipment is the preferred application method.
- For small areas, a suitable brush or roller may be used.
- On vertical surfaces, begin at the bottom and work steadily upward.
- Flood the surface continuously to obtain uniform saturation.
- Continue application until a run-down of approximately 30 cm is achieved.
- On dense substrates, one fully saturated coat is normally sufficient.
- On porous substrates, apply two or more saturation coats when required.
- Apply additional coats using the wet-on-wet technique.
- Do not allow the preceding coat to dry before applying the next wet-on-wet coat.
- Protect adjacent glass, metal, plants and incompatible surfaces from overspray.
Yield and Coverage
The approximate coverage rate is 3-6 m² per litre per coat.
Coverage varies significantly according to substrate porosity and absorption. Apply a test area to determine actual site consumption before commencing full application.
Cleaning
Clean application equipment immediately after use with clean water or the cleaning method recommended in the current Safety Data Sheet. Do not allow residues to enter soil or watercourses.
Storage and Shelf Life
WR 50 has a shelf life of 12 months when stored in its original sealed packaging in a dry, shaded place under suitable warehouse conditions at a temperature below 35°C.
