Uses
- Waterproofing and protecting concrete roofs.
- Waterproofing wet areas and kitchens.
- Waterproofing foundations and below-grade structures.
- Maintenance of existing roofs, masonry and concrete walls.
- Waterproofing shaded roofs and roofs protected with tiles.
- Providing a vapor-barrier coating for walls and floors.
- Waterproofing polyurethane foam slabs.
- Suitable for concrete, tiles, masonry, polyurethane foam, steel and wood.
- Suitable for residential and commercial waterproofing applications.
Advantages
- Single-component elastomeric waterproofing membrane.
- Cold-applied and ready to use.
- Highly durable flexible membrane.
- High-build film thickness.
- High crack-bridging capability.
- Excellent waterproofing properties.
- Effective barrier against rainwater.
- Excellent resistance to weathering.
- Good ultraviolet resistance.
- Good resistance to dirt pick-up.
- Suitable for several common construction substrates.
- Easy to apply using a brush or roller.
Substrate Preparation
All surfaces must be sound, clean and free from dust, cement laitance, oil, grease, loose particles and any contaminants that may reduce adhesion.
Wire brushing, sandblasting, water blasting or grinding may be used to clean and prepare the substrate.
Where moss, algae or similar biological growth is present, apply a suitable proprietary biocide after the grit-blasting process.
Remove spalled or deeply disintegrated concrete until sound concrete is reached. Repair defective areas using a suitable WHITE SAND concrete repair system.
New concrete substrates must be at least three to four weeks old, depending on the concrete condition and surrounding climate.
Priming
Prime the properly prepared substrate using a compatible primer where required. Carry out a small adhesion test when applying the product to tiles, steel, wood, polyurethane foam or other non-standard substrates.
Application of a suitable primer followed by two membrane coats is recommended for maximum performance.
Application
- Stir the contents of the container thoroughly to redistribute any settled material.
- Apply DURABLACK SEAL to the prepared surface using a suitable high-quality brush or roller.
- Apply the first coat evenly without leaving pinholes, missed areas or excessive material build-up.
- While the first coat remains wet, embed a suitable reinforcing mesh over joints, corners, changes in direction and detailed areas.
- Where required by the substrate condition, reinforce the complete application area.
- Allow approximately 24 hours between coats at normal room temperature.
- Apply the second coat evenly to achieve the required total membrane thickness.
- Allow the membrane to cure for at least 24 hours before light exposure or subsequent work.
- Protect the completed membrane from damage until fully cured.
Yield and Coverage
The theoretical spreading rate is approximately 1.5-2 m²/kg per coat at a wet-film thickness of approximately 0.5 mm.
The stated coverage is approximate. Actual consumption depends on substrate porosity, surface profile, application method, required thickness and material wastage.
Cleaning
Clean tools and equipment immediately after use and before the initial cure using clean water. Hardened material must be removed mechanically.
Storage and Shelf Life
DURABLACK SEAL has a shelf life of 12 months when stored in its original sealed container in a dry, shaded place under suitable warehouse conditions at a temperature below 35°C.
Packaging
