Surface Preparation
Steel and ferrous-metal surfaces must be structurally sound, clean, dry and free from dust, oil, grease, rust, mill scale, old loose coatings and other contaminants that may reduce adhesion.
Remove rust and weak material by mechanical sanding. Where the steel surface is heavily corroded or cannot be prepared adequately by sanding, abrasive blast-cleaning is recommended.
After sanding or blast-cleaning, remove all dust and residues using a soft brush or clean cloth. Clean the prepared surface with a suitable cleaning thinner such as Techno Thinner T898 and allow it to dry completely before applying the primer.
Mixing and Thinning
Stir WHITE SAND OXIDE PRIMER thoroughly before use until a uniform consistency and color are obtained.
Use a suitable normal thinner where dilution is required. The amount of thinner depends on the application equipment, ambient conditions and required application viscosity.
- Spray-gun application: dilute with approximately 15-25% thinner by volume.
- Roller or brush application: dilute with approximately 10-15% thinner by volume.
Application
- Ensure that the steel surface is correctly prepared, clean and completely dry.
- Stir the primer thoroughly before application.
- Dilute the product according to the selected application method.
- Apply one uniform coat using a spray gun, soft roller or suitable brush.
- Apply at a recommended dry-film thickness of approximately 40 microns.
- Ensure complete and even coverage, particularly around edges, welds, bolts and difficult areas.
- Avoid excessive application, sagging and material accumulation.
- Allow the primer to dry for at least 16 hours before applying a compatible subsequent coat.
Yield and Coverage
The theoretical coverage of WHITE SAND OXIDE PRIMER is approximately 13.5 m² per litre at a dry-film thickness of 40 microns.
The stated coverage is theoretical. Actual consumption depends on the condition and profile of the steel, application method, applied thickness, overspray and material wastage.
Drying and Recoating
- Dry to touch: approximately 1 hour.
- Fully dry: approximately 16 hours.
- Minimum recoating interval: approximately 16 hours.
Drying times may vary according to ambient temperature, ventilation, relative humidity and applied film thickness.
Cleaning
Clean spraying equipment, rollers, brushes and other tools immediately after use with the recommended thinner. Dried material must be removed mechanically.
Storage and Shelf Life
WHITE SAND OXIDE PRIMER has a minimum shelf life of 12 months when stored in its unopened original container in a dry, cool and well-ventilated location.
Keep containers tightly sealed and away from heat, sparks, naked flames and other sources of ignition.
