Uses
- Waterproofing new and existing structurally sound concrete.
- Waterproofing concrete structures exposed to positive water pressure.
- Waterproofing concrete structures exposed to negative water pressure.
- Waterproofing basements and below-grade concrete structures.
- Waterproofing water-retaining concrete structures.
- Application as a brush-applied cementitious slurry.
- Application as a trowel-applied waterproofing mortar.
- Dry-shake application over freshly poured concrete.
Advantages
- Single-component crystalline cementitious waterproofing material.
- Penetrates and protects the concrete matrix.
- Excellent barrier against hydrostatic water pressure.
- Suitable for positive and negative water pressure.
- Seals capillary pores and hairline cracks within the cementitious matrix.
- Barrier against carbon dioxide, chloride ions, sulphates and water.
- Suitable for old and newly poured concrete.
- Can be applied by stiff brush, trowel or suitable spraying equipment.
- Can be dry-sprinkled over fresh concrete.
- Requires only the addition of clean water.
- Contains no chloride.
Substrate Preparation
All surfaces must be sound, clean and free from dust, cement laitance, oil, grease, loose particles and contaminants that may prevent penetration or adhesion.
Wire brushing, sandblasting, water blasting, grinding or surface etching may be used to prepare the concrete.
Route out cracks and cold joints wider than 1 mm to a minimum depth and width of approximately 15 mm. Seal the prepared chases using WHITE SAND PLUG.
Stop all active water leakage using WHITE SAND PLUG before applying CRYSTAPROOF.
Where moss, algae or similar biological growth is present, apply a suitable proprietary biocide following the grit-blasting process.
Pre-wet the concrete thoroughly and allow standing water to dissipate. At the time of application, the substrate should be saturated surface-dry.
Mixing for Coating Application
- Place approximately 7 kg of clean water in a suitable mixing container for each 20 kg bag.
- Slowly add CRYSTAPROOF powder to the water while mixing continuously.
- Use a slow-speed electric drill fitted with a suitable mixing paddle.
- Mix until a smooth, homogeneous and lump-free slurry is obtained.
- Use the mixed material within its 60-minute pot life.
Mixing for Mortar Application
Reduce the mixing-water quantity as required to produce a workable mortar consistency. Do not exceed the stated maximum water quantity.
Coating Application
- Apply the mixed slurry to the prepared substrate using a high-quality broom, stiff bristle brush or suitable plaster-spray equipment.
- Work the first coat firmly into the concrete surface.
- Apply each coat at a recommended thickness of approximately 1 mm.
- Apply two coats for maximum waterproofing performance.
- Apply the second coat after the first coat has reached its initial set.
- If the first coat has dried, lightly moisten it before applying the second coat.
Mortar Application
- Prime the prepared substrate with one slurry coat of CRYSTAPROOF.
- Apply the mortar-consistency material while the priming coat remains receptive.
- Use a suitable trowel or spatula.
- Do not exceed a mortar thickness of approximately 10 mm.
Dry-Shake Application
- Apply CRYSTAPROOF uniformly over freshly poured and leveled concrete.
- Ensure complete and consistent distribution over the full surface.
- Finish the treated concrete using a power trowel in accordance with the concrete-finishing procedure.
Curing
Keep CRYSTAPROOF continuously moist during curing to support the crystalline-formation process.
Protect the treated surface from strong winds, direct sun and high temperatures. Fog-spray the surface using clean water approximately three times daily for at least three days.
Yield and Coverage
Approximate coverage from one 20 kg bag:
| Application Method |
Approximate Coverage |
| Coating slurry, two coats |
18 m² |
| Mortar at 5 mm thickness |
4 m² |
| Dry-shake application |
16 m² |
The stated quantities are approximate and are provided for estimating purposes. Actual consumption depends on surface profile, porosity, application thickness and wastage.
Cleaning
Clean tools and equipment immediately after use and before the initial cure using clean water. Hardened material must be removed mechanically.
Storage and Shelf Life
CRYSTAPROOF has a shelf life of 12 months when stored in its original unopened packaging in a dry, shaded place under suitable warehouse conditions at a temperature below 35°C.
Packaging
