Uses
- Levelling uneven concrete floors.
- Repairing surface irregularities in existing concrete floors.
- Producing smooth and level floors in new construction.
- Preparing floors before installing ceramic tiles.
- Underlayment beneath carpets and other compatible floor coverings.
- Suitable for floors subjected to heavy traffic.
- Suitable for manually poured or mechanically pumped application.
Advantages
- Single-component cementitious floor-levelling compound.
- Self-smoothing and free-flowing consistency.
- Suitable for new and reinstatement applications.
- High compressive strength.
- Good flexural strength.
- Produces a smooth and level surface.
- Suitable for heavy-traffic floors.
- Can be applied manually or by mechanical pump.
- Requires only the addition of clean water.
- Ready for foot traffic after approximately 18 hours at 23°C.
Substrate Preparation
The concrete substrate must be sound, clean and free from oil, grease, sealers, curing compounds, paint, polymer coatings, laitance, adhesive residues, dust and any contaminants that may prevent adhesion.
Remove weak material, excess bitumen, adhesive and laitance using mechanical captive shot blasting or grinding. Vacuum the prepared surface thoroughly to remove dust and debris.
Repair cracks, damaged concrete and defective areas using a suitable WHITE SAND concrete repair system before applying FLOOR SL 100.
New concrete floors must be at least 14 days old before application.
Priming
- Prime the prepared concrete using a suitable WHITE SAND primer system.
- Apply the primer using a stiff brush, broom or roller.
- Approximate primer coverage is 5-7 m² per litre.
- At the time of application, the primer should be dry but remain tacky.
- Do not apply FLOOR SL 100 to an unprimed substrate.
- Do not allow dust to contaminate the primed surface.
- If contamination occurs, clean and re-prime the affected area.
- Contact WHITE SAND Technical Support before application to non-porous substrates.
Mixing
- Place approximately 4.7 litres of cold, clean water in a clean mixing container for each 20 kg bag.
- Gradually add FLOOR SL 100 powder while mixing continuously.
- Use a heavy-duty mixing drill with a high-shear paddle operating at approximately 600 rpm.
- After adding the complete bag, continue mixing for approximately two minutes.
- Mix until a smooth, homogeneous and flowing consistency is obtained.
- Do not mix manually.
- Do not add more water than recommended.
- Mix only the amount that can be placed within the 20-minute flow time.
- For large areas, prepare consecutive mixes to allow continuous pouring.
Application
- Pour the mixed FLOOR SL 100 onto the prepared and primed substrate.
- Allow the material to flow and seek its own level.
- Spread the material when required using a steel trowel or suitable squeegee.
- For thin applications, use a spiked roller to release trapped air.
- Maintain a wet edge between consecutive mixes.
- Discard material that has lost its fully fluid consistency.
- For large areas, the product may be placed using a suitable mechanical pump.
- Protect the applied floor from traffic and contamination until sufficiently hardened.
Curing
Special curing is generally not required. During hot or rapid-drying conditions, cover the freshly hardened surface completely with polyethylene sheets or damp hessian for approximately two days.
Yield and Coverage
One 20 kg bag covers approximately 1 m² at a thickness of 10 mm.
The stated coverage is approximate. Actual consumption depends on substrate level, application thickness, surface condition and material wastage.
Cleaning
Clean tools and equipment immediately after application using clean water. Hardened material must be removed mechanically.
Storage and Shelf Life
Store FLOOR SL 100 in unopened and undamaged original packaging in a dry, shaded place, away from moisture and direct sunlight, at a temperature below 35°C.
Packaging
